Crosier lay association celebrates 10th jubilee
10-SEPT-18 (Phoenix, Arizona) – This year marked a milestone commemoration for the Crosier Fathers and Brothers in Phoenix, as their lay program, known as the Association of the Companions of the Holy Cross, celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The Crosiers held a closing Mass of the jubilee year on Sept. 9 at the Priory Church of the Holy Cross at Crosier Village in Phoenix. During Mass, 10 new candidates made their first commitment, three Companions renewed their one-year commitment and five renewed their three-year commitment. The joy-filled celebration was witnessed by fellow Companions, family and friends, and the Crosiers. Following the ceremony, everyone walked into the Campo Family Hall which was beautifully decorated in the Crosier colors for a convivial dinner.
The 10 new Companions include: Patricia Anzaldua, Gerardo Anzaldua, Mark Aquilano, Joan Cormier, Linda
Erran, Anne Jacobson, Connie Leon, Julian O'Grady, Elizabeth Reyes Armstead and Cecilia Sanchez. The group has grown to 30 Companions of the Holy Cross. Fr. Stephan Bauer, osc, and Br. Jim Scher serve as director and associate director, respectively. Companions; Jim S. serves as associate director.
The Companions is a group of Catholic lay men and women, single and married, who wish to deepen their baptismal commitment through the inspiration of the Crosier way of life. They work together with the Crosiers in Phoenix to embrace fellowship with one another. With an established rhythm of daily prayer, they provide acts of service including maintaining a food pantry for needy seniors, assisting with hospitality at Crosier events and participating in interfaith gatherings.
The Companion program began in 2008 under the direction of Fr. Bob Rossi, osc. The first group of candidates made their commitment in March 2009 with the second group following six months later. In September 2010, the Crosiers welcomed their third group of candidates, in addition to the commitment renewal of many others!
On Sept. 14, 2011, eight new Companions made a commitment to the association joining the other members who had already renewed for another year.
Each year, new candidates begin their six-month formation in March and make their commitment in September.
