Br. Michael Glidden, osc, dies in Minnesota
The Crosier Community mourns the loss of our brother. Br. Michael Joseph (William Jr.), osc was born April 23, 1927, to William and Katherine (McConville) Glidden in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He is preceded in death by four siblings, and survived by one brother, Fred, and members of the extended Glidden family.
Br. Mike served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-46 as World War II was concluding. He joined the Crosiers as a novice in 1953 and made his first Profession of Vows March 19, 1954, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He died in Onamia, Minnesota, December 5, 2014, at the Mille Lacs Health System long-term care facility. He was 87 years old.
His ministry centered on coaching and working with youth at the Crosier Seminary in Onamia, 1958-83; St. Stephen's Church in Anoka, 1983-91; the Nexus program in Onamia, 1991-2006; and at Onamia High School, 1991-2014. He was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001.
Funeral Services will include the Reception of the Body at the Crosier Priory in Onamia Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 4:30 p.m., with Office of the Dead. A vigil will be kept in the Priory Church until the Funeral Mass begins at 7 p.m. Hospitality will follow the liturgy. A private burial at the Crosier cemetery will take place on Wednesday.
