The Gift of Myrrh: Latino traditions of Christmas--their ideals and realities

At Jesus’ birth, one of the Magi presented a startling gift—myrrh (Mt 2:11). In the ancient Middle East, myrrh was a resin used for embalming. It was a bittersweet gift, acknowledging both new life and death.

The Gift of Myrrh reflection asks us to acknowledge our own “brokenness” and re-affirm living by the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

We will explore the imperfect reality of life and the unrealistic expectations that affect our experience of Advent as they relate to Latino traditions of Christmas. Fr. Stephan Bauer, osc, and Companions of the Holy Cross member Annie Conway will offer strategies to spiritually deal with our struggles. The Gift of Myrrh reflection asks us to acknowledge our own “brokenness” and re-affirm living by the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

We invite you to join us for this spiritually enriching morning.

The $25 registration fee includes morning refreshments.

Presented by Crosier Village Ministries and assisted by the Companions of the Holy Cross.
