Br. Roman Fleischhacker, osc, died on Sept. 14, 2013, in Onamia, Minn. He was 90.
Br. Roman was born near St. Martin, Minn., to Joseph A. and Ann E. (Gully) Fleischhacker on August 9, 1923. He was a student in the St. Martin School District 22 and attended St. John’s in Collegeville, Minn., for high school and junior college. He entered the novitiate in 1948 and professed his vows on March 19, 1949.
Br. Roman is survived by six siblings: Sr. Emerentia, osb; Ralph (AnnaMae); Ardwin; Merwyn (Rita); Richard (Eileen); Fr. John, osc; and his Crosier confreres. Br. Roman was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters-in-law Clotilda, Doreen, and LuAnn.
Br. Roman was the director of the Crosier Apostolate donor program for the Onamia Priory for many years, and in this ministry he became a friend to many generous benefactors and friends of the Crosiers around central Minnesota and beyond. He was also involved in the Crosier Mission Office and served as the alumni director for Crosier Seminary for many years. He was also very involved in the Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) and Koinonia retreat programs in the Diocese of St. Cloud and managed a Catholic bookstore at the priory in Hastings during his time there.
A scholarship fund in honor of Br. Roman was established in 1986 to recognize his nearly three decades of dedicated service to the Crosier Apostolate, the Crosier Alumni Association, and Crosier Seminary. The income from that fund is used for the formation and education of the next generation of Crosier priests and brothers.
