Br. Daniel Jerome Stang osc, dies in Onamia
The Crosier Fathers and Brothers mourn the loss of our confrere.
Br. Daniel (Dan) Jerome Stang, osc, was born May 11, 1929, in St. Martin, Minnesota, to Mathias and Amalia (Lieser) Stang.
Br. Dan died at Mille Lacs Health System Long Term Care in Onamia, Minnesota, on June 12, 2020. He was 91.
He attended District #22 Elementary School in St. Martin, Minnesota; Crosier High School and Crosier Seminary, both in Onamia; and Sacred Heart Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He supplemented his academic development with courses and workshops of varying topics including nutrition, Spanish and contemplation.
Br. Dan entered the Crosier novitiate in 1950 and made his first profession of vows Aug. 28, 1954, in Hastings, Nebraska. He renewed his vows in 1957 and professed solemn vows in Ft. Wayne on Aug. 28, 1960.
Many of his assignments and ministries centered around Crosier Religious Life as a member of the Crosier communities in Ft. Wayne; Hastings; Syracuse, Indiana; Beallsville, Maryland; and Onamia. Br. Dan faithfully served the Crosier Fathers and Brothers through farming, cooking and maintenance. He also served for many years in the development office in Onamia until his retirement in 2004.
He is survived numerous siblings and their spouses, by his Crosier confreres, and a very large, central Minnesota extended family.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic health and safety precautions, the Crosiers celebrated a private Memorial Mass with inurnment in the columbarium at the Priory Cemetery in Onamia.
