The Crosiers remain steadfast in their commitment to ensure accountability and the safety of the people the Order serves. On May 23, 2014, the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis, Minn., released an additional list of priests’ names credibly accused of abusing minors. Among those named is deceased Crosier Justin Weger, osc.
When the archdiocese originally released its list on Dec. 5, 2013, Justin Weger’s name was not included. He was, however, included on the list released by the Crosier Fathers and Brothers in 2002 as well as on the updated list released on March 6, 2014.
Crosier Prior Provincial Thomas Enneking, osc, stated, “The Crosiers remain committed to being transparent to help victims and their families to heal and find peace of heart once again. I am pleased to see the commitment of the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis to the same effort.”Justin Weger had an assignment to serve in the archdiocese at Prince of Glory Catholic Indian Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota (1971–1972). His priestly faculties were withdrawn in 1976. He died Jan. 15, 2005.
There were claims and lawsuits alleging sexual abuse against Justin Weger while he was a Crosier. The Crosiers take each of these claims seriously, along with any claim of abuse by any Crosier, staff person or volunteer associated with us.
“The Crosiers do not tolerate any forms of sexual abuse, and we are profoundly sorry for actions committed by these members of our Order. We are very aware of the pain and suffering the victims have endured, and our greatest concern is to help foster their healing. Ensuring a safe environment for all those who approach the Church for their spiritual needs is essential,” Fr. Tom Enneking said.
