Crosiers Today

There are currently about 74 Crosiers who are members of the U.S. Province of the international order, Canons Regular of the Order of the Holy Cross. The headquarters for the U.S. province – the Province of Saint Odilia – is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and there are two Crosier Communities – in Onamia, Minnesota, and Phoenix, Arizona – that serve as centers of Crosier life in the United States. From these communities, Crosiers serve the Church and the people of God in a variety of internal and external ministries. (See Essence of Crosier Life).

In addition, Crosiers from the U.S. Province are assigned in service to support the international Order in several locations around the world, including Brazil,  Europe, and Indonesia.

Crosiers around the world, and particularly in the United States, are engaged in a Decade of Transformation leading toward the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Order in 2010. In January 2003, U.S. Crosiers adopted Vision 2010, a document that is guiding our efforts to renew Crosier religious life here in the United States.

We have become more aware of and committed to our primary vocation to religious life. Vision 2010 reaffirms that the route to God for a Crosier is the desire to imitate Christ through his union of mind and heart in community, through a life of liturgical prayer and ministry, through the emphatic promise as a Religious to say “yes” to God, through our membership in and service to the wider people of God, and, finally, by our engagement with the world.

To live this commitment to Vision 2010, we have taken on the tasks of restructuring and stabilizing our province in order to make it possible to live our religious life in more vibrant ways. This has meant focusing our lives and resources on building up just two vital Crosier Communities, and re-evaluate and re-define how we provide service to the Church and the people of God.

Crosier Provincial Chapter 2005

Crosiers met for a Provincial Assembly and Provincial Chapter in June 2005 to review and refine direction for the coming years and to elect leadership. Thomas Carkhuff, osc, was re-elected to serve a three-year term as Prior Provincial. As Prior Provincial, he serves as the leader of the Crosiers in the United States and West Papua, Indonesia, and is responsible for both the spiritual and temporal welfare of the Order. He was first elected to a six-year term as Prior Provincial in 1999.
